Founded in 1989, the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College was originally affiliated to the University of Mumbai and the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik (MUHS), but now is a constituent college of the Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil University. It was recently awarded an ISO 9001:2000 certification from the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and (JAS-ANZ). Currently, the college provides facilities for M.B.B.S. and Post-Graduate studies. The spacious building accommodates twenty different departments, which include Departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Medicine, Paediatrics, Chest and TB, Skin and VD, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology and Radiodiagnosis.

The students shall undergo a period of study extending over four and a half academic years divided into 9 semesters of 6 months each. This is followed by a one-year compulsory rotating internship. The four and a half years are divided into three phases.

Courseware

Phase-I (2 semesters) This phase consists of pre-clinical subjects like human anatomy,Physiology, biochemistry and introduction to community medicine.

Phase-II (3 semesters) This phase consists of para-clinical subjects like pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, forensic medicine including toxicology and a part of community medicine. During phase-II, teaching of para-clinical and clinical subjects is done concurrently.

Phase-III (continuation of study of clinical subjects for 7 semesters after passing Phase-I)

The clinical subjects taught in Phase-II and Phase-III include Medicine and its allied specialities, Surgery and its allied specialities, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Community Medicine. The Medicine and its allied specialities include- General Medicine, Paediatrics, Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, Dermatology, Venerealogy and Leprosy. Surgery and its allied specialities include General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Anaesthesia, etc. Obstetrics and Gynecology includes family welfare planning.

Dentistry is a highly specialized branch. No wonder then, five years of graduation are needed to study just one part of the body. Of course, further studies like Pedodontics, Orthodontics and the newly emerging Cosmetic Dentistry just add to the plethora of vistas available to the aspiring dental surgeon. How many of us in our daily lives can do without a dentist? Sooner or later we have to be seated in the dental chair and submit our teeth to the skills of the dental surgeon. He may twist, drill or vacuum suck our teeth, but then at the end of it all, he gives us a reason to smile. In fact, 32 reasons to smile!

One of the first private dental colleges in the state, the Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College comes under the aegis of the Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil University . It boasts of an attached Hospital that is housed in a spacious multi-storied building. The college offers Bachelor of Dental Surgery and a Masters in Prosthetic Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Periodontology and Conservative Dentistry

The College is an excellent breeding ground for ace dentists with ultra-modern clinical and research facilities and a dedicated and learned faculty. It currently maintains the departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Periodontology, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Paediatric Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Community Dentistry.

Courseware

The students shall undergo a period of study extending over four academic years. This is followed by a one-year compulsory internship. The subjects in the curriculum for examination in each of the four years are as follows:

First Year

General Human Anatomy and Histology, General Physiology and Biochemistry Dental Materials

Second Year

General Pathology and Microbiology , Pharmacology, Human Oral Anatomy and Histology, Pre-clinical Prosthodontics ,Pre-clinical Conservative Dentistry

Third Year

General Medicine , General Surgery , Oral Pathology and Microbiology
Apart from these subjects, this is the first year where the students enter the clinics and start treating patients under the supervision of the teaching staff.

Final Year
